Every trekker must know about altitude sickness when traveling in the high altitude. So it is worthy to use precautionary ideas and tools such as staying dry or getting down from the high altitude. Because of low oxygen, our some part of the body doesn’t work properly while in high altitude. As a result, you might feel problems like nausea, headache, appetite, vomiting, and shortness of breath.

Tips to avoid Acute Mountain Sickness

a) Acclimatization

In the high altitude, the level of oxygen is decreased and oxygen molecules per breath get lower. It is necessary to get oxygen for the climbing and expedition. If you face a low oxygen level, you have to adjust to breathing.
Acclimatization helps you to let the body adjusts to high elevation. It is mandatory to stay at the place for a day or more for recovering the body. It helps you to make more familiar to the thin air of the mountains.
It is recommended to spend one or two days at the same altitude for every 1,000 meters depends on your health conditions. You must spend acclimatization days while you trek to the Everest Region and Kanchenjunga region.

b) Hydrate

hydrated by maintaining the water level
The rate of lungs water evaporation is higher at high elevation. Thus, it is necessary to hydrate more. Carry a bottle of water and drink frequently even if do not feel thirsty.
You can maintain the electrolyte level with a sports drink. Such type of drinks helps to maintain your body hydrated by maintaining the water level. It is useful in the case of losing lots of water through respiration.

c) Don’t use Caffeine and alcohol

In Sherpa villages, the local homemade alcoholic drinks and a cup of beer may be very tempting. But, it is best to stay away from caffeine and alcohol in the morning time during your trek.
Caffeine and alcohol consumption at a higher elevation will increase dehydration. You must avoid these things whenever you ascent high elevation. You can have caffeine and alcohol in the low altitude while descending.

d) Slow and steady wins the Race

Slow and steady wins the Race
The other thing to do while you trek is to injure yourself. It is difficult to breathe as you are in high elevation but it is surely wrong to push yourself too difficult situation.
Trekking and climbing is not a race to win. You can walk slow and steady while watching the mountain and lake. The best way to avoid altitude sickness is acclimatization.

e) Make your stomach happy

Nepalese Dal Bhat Tarkari

Trip Itinerary

You will be welcomed at the airport by our staff and transferred to a hotel for check in. Our airport representative will explain further details of the program and answer your questions. Overnight stay at the hotel (breakfast included)

Today, we start our sightseeing tour in the Kathmandu Valley which includes the cultural heritage experiences including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and Pasupatinath Temple. Enjoy the artistic palace, culture, paintings, sculptures and a brief history of Nepal. Overnight at the hotel breakfast included.

Your Trekking guides will pick you up at 8:00 am. Then, we will start our 8 hours’ drive to Arughat. The first four hours to Dhading Besi, the district headquarters of Dhading (1050m), is on paved roads, but for the section to Arughat, we will be driving on a rougher surface. From Arughat we drive another 1.5 hrs to Soti Khola by public jeep. We will stay overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

After crossing the Machha River and Khrolabesi, we will pass through the hot springs at Tatopani. The trail follows a forested area until we cross Dovan Khola. We then make our way to Budhi Gandaki Valley. As the elevation increases, the scenery undergoes a complete transformation, with white sandy areas along the riverside. Stay overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

Here the trail will fascinate you with impressive waterfalls on either side of the valley. We pass Eklebhatti; head towards the river and cross it twice over suspension bridges. Then, we pass Euwa, traverse a small campsite and continue through the valley until we reach the village of Deng. Stay overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

Today we will scramble steeply up onto a spectacular trail before descending to cross the river. We pass through some small settlements and then climb to an impressive valley. There we will encounter Mani stones (prayer stones) carved into wayside rocks – a sign that we are entering Tibetan territory. In the afternoon, we take a side excursion to the small settlement of Prok – a two hour round trip. Stay overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

We’ll pass the stone gate and the long Mani stone wall of the village of Lho, with an astounding view of Peak 29 ahead. You can take a side excursion to Pungen Glacier in order to get a very close up view of Manaslu from here. The trial follows a lateral moraine of Pungen Glacier towards Sama. It takes a further 20 minutes to reach Sama Gompa for our night halt. Stay overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

This day has been set aside for acclimatization and you can opt for a full or half day walk. The full day walk is towards Manaslu Base Camp (approximately 6-7 hour round trip). Alternatively, there are half day walks either to the glacier across the valley or to Birendra Ta. Stay overnight at the guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

The Manaslu Circuit Trek now crosses grazing areas and gradually ascends the valley. Fantastic views of the mountains especially Manaslu are ahead of us as we reach Samdo (3860m), a Tibetan refugee village. This remote village is only a day’s walk from the Tibetan border. In the afternoon we will explore the village and surrounding hills. Stay overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

After crossing a couple of streams, we’ll reach the Larkya Bazaar. This is a village which thrived from trade with Tibet years ago. After a steady climb we will arrive at our lodge at 4450m. It is the last overnight before the pass. (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

We will climb Cho Chanda and then slowly head uphill towards the steep snow covered pass. The panorama from the top is truly magnificent. You will see Himlung Himal (7126meter), Cheo Himal (6820meters), Gyagi Kung, Kang Kuru (6981meters) and Annapurna II (7937meters). The descent is steep as we pass through moraines to Bhimphedi. Stay overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

With a gentle climb through paddy fields, we will head towards the small Karcha La pass. The trial descends through fig trees and rhododendron forests to Tilje. Stay overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

This will be the last day on the trails. After waking up at Tilje, we head to Dharapani. The route descends so the trek should be easy. You will be trekking through many fields and pastures and arrive at Tilje - a large Gurung settlement. This village is famous for brandy. However, we continue forward passing several Mani walls to reach Thonje village and then enter Dharapani village.

Today, we will be our last day on the road. After early morning breakfast, we leave Dharapani to Besishar on a local bus, which will approximately take about six to seven hours. The drive will be scenic as we will pass many villages, Marsyangdi River, Bhulbhule town, and Khudi. We should be reaching Besisahar before 3 pm to catch the last bus to Kathmandu. If we are late, we will have to extend a day in the itinerary.

After catching a bus that takes us back to Kathmandu, on our way, we will see the Marsyagdi River meeting the Trishuli River, as we head east on the Prithivi Highway. The drive allows you to appreciate beautiful and natural scenery  over Night at Kathmandu .

Approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight, a representative from the Nepal Adventure Pilgrimage, will take you to the airport and bid you farewell. You will take with you wonderful memories of a truly outstanding experience

Amazing experience with Nepal Adventure Pilgrimage Trek

but also were trekking with our 17 year old daughter so didn’t want anything risky. When we got to the airport to fly out to Lukla all the flights were cancelled and looked like they might be for several days. Within an hour Anil had come up with another trek and booked it in with a new porter, flights, car transport... the whole itinerary!! We were off to do the Manaslu Trek . He really saved the day. It was the most beautiful experience walking through ferny valleys and icy mountains, in the snow and sunshine. Walking in winter was fantastic as it was low season and so what would have been super busy in summer was peaceful and beautiful. Anil pointed out so many extra little things along the way. He constantly checked in to see if we wanted to rest, and changed the schedule to fit in with our needs. He carried my husbands day pack as well as his own full pack when my husband was a bit unwell. We are so grateful that we found Anil and would recommend him for anything that you want to do anywhere in Nepal. We are hoping to go back in a few years to do Mustang with him.
