Overview

Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek  With great pleasure, the Nepal Adventure pilgrimage offers you the Tsum Valley Trek, which is opened recently to foreigners in 2007. The most significant attribute of this trek is the high altitude, the Tibetan culture where locals still follow polyandry system and Bon religion. The Tsum Valley is enclosed by the Ganesh Himal to the south, Buddha Himal and Himal Chuli to the west, and Sringi Himal to the North. It is believed that great Buddhist Guru Milarepa had once meditated in the mountain caves of this valley, so it is also known to be one of the eight sacred valleys (called Beyuls) in the inner Himalayas and home to a pilgrimage. Tsum is derived from the Tibetan word “Tsombo”, meaning vivid. As the name implies, its natural scenic views and richness in Tibetan culture, art and religion makes it a remarkable and vivid haven.

Only a few numbers of travelers have made it into this astounding valley, which used to be an important trade link with Tibet. As it is a remote destination, this divine valley has been untouched by mainstream peoples for generations which have resulted in the unique culture of this valley to be intact. The region once being part of Tibet looks totally different from what you will find elsewhere.  The general population of Tsum Valley or the Tsumbas belongs to Tibetan origin with their own antiquated type of lingo, society, art and religion.  On the way of this trip, you can have the traditional Tibetan tea (butter tea) and local meal. The Buddhist monks accompany the groups of trekkers.

Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek  has a long history of Buddhism and its path is covered with artistic Chortens and lined with Mani walls made of large number of stone slabs carved with deities and prayers. It consists of less steep climbing and more hiking. Overall Tsum Valley Trek is adventurous, it is not so difficult to pass and one can have the views of glorious mountain ranges. Walking beside Budi Gandaki River, the path follows beautiful forest, hilly villages and terraced fields. Additionally, you can experience glacial rivers, alpine forests and hospitable peoples on this trek. As you hike, you will pass these beautiful neighborhoods namely Jagat, Rachen Gompa, Mu Gompa,   Philim and some other beautiful places where you can enjoy its serenity. Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek  is suitable for all kinds of trekkers. You can trek around March to May and August to November as it is considered the best season of the year for this trek.

Accommodation during Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek

In the Manaslu trekking, every night the trekkers will stay in the local teahouse. Most of the teahouse is basic but comfortable. In the teahouse, you can find the common area for the relaxing, meals and others. You eat healthy and tasty food on the trekking tour. The trekkers stay warm and secure at overall the night.

Most of the people are choosing the Manaslu trekking tour for their vacation due to some reason such as less crowded, avoid the need for the domestic flights, trekking is remote and others. Manaslu is the eighth tallest peak across the world. It is located more than 8160 meters above sea level. In the trekking tour, you can see the wildlife, forest, small villages, river, and others. You no need to bring the food, tents and other to the trekking tour. The Manaslu trekking tour is affordable than the other trekking tour in Nepal.

Difficulty

The trekking in the Manaslu Region is fairly strenuous. The trekker's physical condition determines the difficulty of trekking in the Manaslu Region. Make sure you have some physical exercises before starting the trek! Increase your core strength by cardio workouts or jogging or maybe dancing too! The Manaslu Trek, which takes you through remote Himalayan communities, is one of Nepal's most difficult walks. It is an off-the-beaten-path trek in Nepal.

Can you do trekking in the  Manaslu Trek via Tsum Valley region  solo?

The Manaslu Circuit is not accessible to anyone who prefers to travel alone. You may have to save your Alexander Supertramp enthusiasm for another journey. A solo trekker has been limited by the authorities. A minimum of two people must be in a group with a guide. If you want to go the opposite way, you'll need a 'ghost' trekker permit (which will still require a foreign passport) and a guide (obviously). Restricted Area Permit, Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), and Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Permit are the other permissions you'll require

Required permit for Manaslu  and Tsum valley Trek

Yes, you need a special permit to trek in the Manaslu and Tsum Valley region of Nepal. These permits are issued by the Nepali government and are required for all foreign trekkers.
In addition to the restricted area permit, trekkers are also required to obtain a TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) card, which costs USD $20 per person. The TIMS card is a registration card that helps to ensure the safety and security of trekkers in Nepal.
For the Tsum Valley Trek, you need to obtain a separate permit, called the Tsum Valley Special Permit, which costs USD $40 per person for the first week and USD $7 per day for each additional day. This permit is required for all trekkers entering the Tsum Valley Conservation Area.

The Manaslu Trek requires a restricted area permit, also known as a Manaslu Trek Permit, which costs USD $100 per person for the first week and USD $15 per day for each additional day. This permit is required for all trekkers entering the Manaslu Conservation Area.

It is important to note that both permits must be obtained through a registered trekking agency in Nepal, and a licensed guide is also required for both treks.

Best Time for Manaslu and tsum Valley Trek

The best time to do the Manaslu and Tsum Valley Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. During these months, the weather is generally dry and stable, making for comfortable trekking conditions and good visibility of the stunning mountain scenery. In the spring season, the weather is generally warmer, and the rhododendron forests along the trail are in full bloom, making for a beautiful and colorful trekking experience. However, the trail can be quite crowded during this season, as it is a popular time for trekking in Nepal. In the autumn season, the weather is cooler, and the skies are generally clear, offering some of the best views of the Manaslu range and surrounding peaks. The trail is also less crowded during this time, making for a quieter and more peaceful trekking experience. It is possible to trek in the Manaslu and Tsum Valley region during the winter and monsoon seasons, but the weather can be unpredictable, and the trails may be more challenging to navigate.

Your Trekking guides will pick you up at 8:00 am. Then, we will start our 8 hours’ drive to Arughat. The first four hours to Dhading Besi, the district headquarters of Dhading (1050m), is on paved roads, but for the section to Arughat, we will be driving on a rougher surface. From Arughat we drive another 1.5 hrs to Soti Khola by public jeep. We will stay overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

Day 4 : Machha Khola to Jagat (1340m/4395ft) Walking Distance: 22.2 Kilometers/13.8 Miles, Duration: 5-6 Hours

After crossing the Machha River and Khrolabesi, we will pass through the hot springs at Tatopani. The trail follows a forested area until we cross Dovan Khola. We then make our way to Budhi Gandaki Valley. As the elevation increases, the scenery undergoes a complete transformation, with white sandy areas along the riverside. Stay overnight at a guesthouse (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included).

Day 5 : Trek Jagat to Chisopani (1660m/5,445ft) – Approx. 4/5 Hours Walk

in Jagat, we have to complete the ACAP procedure. In the early part of our trek, we ascend over a rocky ridge to Salleri and descend to Sirdibas through the flat-level path. The valley widens a bit as the trail continues up to Ghatta Khola. Continue upstream to a long simple hanging bridge and climb up to Philim.  Philim is a big village mainly inhabited by the Gurungs. Philim valley is well known for its Japanese-made school and police station. Walk past Philim to the north across a forest with the views of the narrowing valley. We reach Chisopani.

Day 6 : Trek Chisopani to Chumling (2,386m/7,827ft) – Approx. 6/7 Hours Walk

Leaving Chisopani, we cross the gorge and walk for about half an hour, which offers a big and beautiful waterfall view. This day is challenging as it is an ascending path that stretches almost the entire route. Entering through the pine and rhododendron tree forest, we descend to the trail which leads us to Tsum Valley. En route, you can see the panoramic views of the Mountains. Continuing our walk, we pass through a small beautiful village called Lokpa. It is along the old trail route.

From Lokpa, we have to descend for half an hour up to Lungwa Khola and then climb on a zigzag trail for a further two hours north through pines and rhododendrons until we reach Gumlung. After crossing the Siyar Khola, we finally arrive at Chumling. It is the lower Tsum valley. Chumling is located on the south face of the Shingri Himal, from where we can see an eye-catching view of Shringi Himal. You can also visit the old Chumling Gompa and the stone streets of the village.

Day 7 : Trek Chumling to Chokhangparo (3,010m/9,903ft) – Approx. 4/5 Hours Walk

After breakfast at Chumling, we carry out our walk towards Chokhangparo by crossing the suspension bridge on the river’s opposite bank. The scenic views of the valley and views of Ganesh Himal amply compensate for today’s walk. Then we traverse through the rich farming land of maize and potatoes. The houses are classic Tibetan with barricades of firewood on the roof but without flat roofs, as it rains and snows here. Cross a huge slip where rocks and flood cleared the area even up onto the opposite bank, killing five in 1999, but is now covered with a forest of new trees.

Up the valley to the east are superb views of several of the 7000-7400m Ganesh Himal, of long suspension bridges on the opposite bank, and far above the perched village of Ripchet (2468m). Passing through Rainjam and crossing Serpu Khola, we climb for over two hours on well-graded but exposed track to upper Tsum and the join villages of Chokhangparo, stone houses with a few iron roofs nestled under cliffs. Chokhangparo is situated on flat land and consists of 2 settlements, Chokhang and Paro. If the weather permits, enjoy the views of Himalchuli (7893m) and Ganesh Himal (7140m). Some households practice polyandry down here. This area is prominent for its Tibetan Buddhist heritage.

Day 8 : Trek Chokhangparo to Nile (3,361m/11,058ft) – Approx. 5/6 Hours Walk

We can also make a small visit and then cross the Shiyar Khola, pass through hamlets of Phurbe (3251m) and Pangdun (3258m) and pass an unusual round stupa before reaching the larger village of Chhule (3347m) through an impressive entrance gate. Then we continue walking through the well-managed villages Lar (micro hydropower), Phurbe, and Pangdun.

We leave the old historic Stupa of Buddha in a way crossing the village of Chhule. The children here all wear the Tibetan dressing gown called chubas, and there are many yaks. Heading upstream to cross the bridge and climb to Nile (pronounced Nee-lay). The Nile is the last village heading north in the upper Tsum valley. This area is massively deforested.

This village is situated on the banks of the Shiar Khola, and it consists of a large number of households. Both villages are in traditional style, including livestock compounds into the houses and sheltered verandahs for drying crops.

Day 9 : Nile to Mu Gompa (3,700m/12,174ft) Day Hike, 6-7 Hours

We are now almost close to the Tibetan border. Walk to the west bank of the valley through the Tibetan landscapes. Climb up to the Mu Gompa. This Mu Gompa is the largest monastery in the region. The Gompa lies at the highest and most remote part of the Tsum Valley.
